Hi Kim,
You asked how long one can meditate on 'the moment'.
Well,
as long as you are alive. When one begins to learn how to
meditate the first thing that is taught is HOW to
concentrate...
because one cannot meditate without being able to
concentrate.
And if one thinks concentration is simple, try this simple
test: Hold an apple in front of your eyes. Now close your
eyes and then try to hold--concentrate--on the 'image' of
the
apple, in your minds eye, without breaking that
concentration,
for two, that is TWO minutes. Probably you can't.
The idea is that we humans are usually thinking
(dreaming, actually)
about the past or the future. But we are never HERE right
NOW.
Which is really the only thing we can be somewhat certain
of.
It's this searching for the future and dwelling on the past
that brings so much unhappiness and confusion.
When one learns how to be in the Present Moment, at all
times,
one finds heaven on earth.
The slab of concrete you walk on, for example, no longer
is
simply a slab of grey. It BECOMES detailed with lovely
shapes
within the concrete and variations of shades of blues and
pinks
and no two slabs of concrete are the same.
If we train ourselves in this way, NOTHING in life
becomes
boring or mundane. Every nano-second becomes alive to a
very intense degree.
Oh and by the way, one can still be a Christian (or
whatever)
and be a meditator.

Hugs,
Adele
