Are there some technical problems with the k-list? I haven't really got
as many messages as I used to, and I didn't receive the mails I sent to
the k-list recently...

I would assume mantras work in the same way as pranayama. While pranayama
messes with the respiratory areas of the brain, creating a "chain
reaction" of some sort, mantras mess with the areas of brain associated
with hearing & speaking (and also concepts of sound). At least that would
be the only realistic way to justify "personal" mantras, or some mantras
being better than others. Apart from financial realities, of course.

Some people who can't fall into meditative trance otherwise might indeed
benefit from a mantra... however, with active K, I find falling into
meditative trance is ridiculously easy and fast. I also think that mantras
are more "dangerous" than non-mantra methods. Mantras go to the same
basket as pranayama also for this reason. "Don't try unless you are
absolutely sure"-basket.

Hmm... to me it only proves that sound can affect mind, which creates the
perception of chakras.

I haven't tried any mantras myself, but even the thought of making a
"hmmmmm"-like sound sounds unappealing to me. It seems somehow unnatural,
and I instinctionally avoid it. If you instinctionally feel like
chanting/thinking of mantras, it's probably your thing. I do chant
"mantras" spontaneously, but they are mostly syllables of words I like to
repeat (At-hata-hat-ahah) and I don't think of them as mind-altering
techniques... just outbursts of energy.
