There is a Buddhist story that goes something like this:

There once was a hermit who lived on the far shore of a lake. One day a
priest decides to take a boat across the lake to visit this hermit. During
the visit the hermit speaks to the priest of his practice and the mantra he
has been reciting for all these many years. The priest tells the hermit he
has the mantra quite wrong and tells him the correct pronunciation.

As the priest is taking the boat back across the lake he is astonished to see
the old hermit walking towards him, across the water. "What is it you want?"
he manages to stammer. The hermit replies that "he has already forgotten the
correct pronunciation and would the priest please tell it to him again?"

The shocked priest confesses the hermit's practice good enough
