What gave him faith was that he saw the thermometer say that the temperature  
had lowered.

Walking on slivers of glass is a bit different than the whole walking on warm  
coals thing.  The glass is sharp no matter how you look at it..and yes I  
agree it take a bit of "faith"and concentration to perform these.

I'm not doubting this at all.  But in the instance of the coals i think the  
physical properties of the coals override the mental power needed to perform  
the feat.  The roacks arent as hot as the performer thinks they are in the  
first place which helps a bit...but the glass the Yogi walks on is sharp  
regardless, THAT takes a bit more concentrationa nd mental work to overcome.
