I always find this type of argument confusing because
it is assumed that we can actually have an uninfluenced
concept of the soul (or anything else for that matter).
Even
if we believe that we CAN have an uninfluenced concept of
the soul---that in itself is an influenced concept. Because
we carry all the baggage of our lives into any concept.

Now, to make matters even more confusing; Buddhists dont
believe in the soul as something that exists on its own
after the death of the body.

So, that means that not only was I influenced by the
Catholic Church since I was raised with Her teachings....
but that I've rejected the Church's concept of the Soul---
However, in doing so, I've taken on another concept of the
soul in
becoming a Buddhist.

My position on this is the following: we use words to
communicate concepts, but in the end, these are only
concepts (and the lack of is simply another concept).
Words are mere labels but they are not, in themselves
reality, which cannot be described. Like love can't,
or the taste of water. The closest we can come to is
to compare or to do the 'via negativa' thing: What love
ISN'T, etc...Like Paul did in his famous lines about
love in the New Testament.

I find all religions are expressions of the Same Thing.
Like a crystal with a beam of light on it; it creates
a rainbow of colors. That rainbow of color represents the
different sects.

We are attracted to different relgions because of our own
personalities. If we love the Catholic Church and Her
teachings (or any other relgion), does it really matter
as long as we practice the one thing that is evident if
all world relgions: COMPASSION.

Thanks for listening of my musings!

Adele
