<I had been reading Modern Magick, by DM Kraig, and when I saw he briefly
discussed Kundalini, I had to see. According to what he says (and I've been
meaning to ask about this) Kundalini is a term invented by Westerners, and
that it's true, more ancient name is Laya Yoga >

Kundalini is not a term invented by Westerners. Sanskrit (and therefore very
much Indian) tradition offer at least two explanations for the word
kundalini. One is derived from the term "kundal" which means rolled together
or coiled. Kundalini then is seen to be the compressed and static life-energy
that becomes active or "uncoiled" through yoga or other triggering factors.
The other meaning comes from the word "kunda" which means hole or pit in the
ground. Kundalini is the sleeping serpent in its pit that is waiting to be
aroused...

As for laya-yoga, the word laya means dissolution or emptiness and refers to
the state of clear cosmic consciousness without thought or ego, which is the
end result of yoga and the action of kundalini. However it seems as if most
sanskrit terms have several possible meanings and laya can, as far as I know,
also mean rythm or action of sound. In this case it has been used in
connection with the science of mantras (which of course again is part of
kundalini yoga...)

Best wishes to all

Michael
