I agree. I think this destroying of the ego business is just an Eastern
hang-up. Surely, the point is not to destroy it, but to integrate it,
isn't it?>

I would also tend to see the ego as basically our sense of ourselves, all the
accumulated ideas we have of who and what we are. If we 're not living in a
state of unity however, then all these ideas tend to be limited and false.
So, the main task is not really to destroy anything but to come to a true and
permanent understanding of our real identities and Self. The so-called "ego"
then hopefully just drops off in favour of reality.

It's not really an Eastern hang-up either, it's just that in our culture the
hypnotizing-mechanisms suggesting that we in fact aren't anything but our
bodies and aquired personalities are so much stronger. Anything that goes
against this collective delusion is considered to be slightly deranged ...

As for kundalini, I feel that she's the supreme ego-destroyer and reality
giver (alright then, there IS some destruction going on after all..) -
remember Goddess Kali with the dagger and the garlands of chopped-off heads
and severed limbs - that's kundalini making mincemeat of our little ideas of
our little selves-

Bless our Self
