Hi ,

And Welcome! Let me tell you first that you have found a good place to be on
the K-list. Thank you for sharing your story.

It really rang bells for me as my brother is also autistic, though dually
diagnosed with mental retardation in the severe range. I became his legal
guardian when our mother passed away a few years ago. Since then, I've done
a fair bit of studying of autism.

I, like you, have found a strong correspondence with autism to panic/anxiety
problems. This was confirmed to me when I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder
and had relief with some meds. I recommended those to my brother's med
folks, and he too had good results - calming, etc.

Also, many of the physical sensations you report are typical of autism - the
sensory overload and shut down, the "odd" and/or repetitive movements, the
particularly low threshold to sound/touch, etc.

I know, from dream work I've done and outside confirmation, that my brother
is doing work on a higher spiritual level, that his autism serves to separate
him from the "normal" world, freeing him on some levels. Though this
situation causes distress on other levels, no? I believe higher functioning
autistics stand on the threshold between two worlds, feeling nearly alien
when forced to fit the conventions of one. My brother's favorite way to
greet me is to hug my head as he puts his fifth eye (forehead) on the top of
my head, giggling all the while. The energy exchange is tremendous!

Some helpful ideas I can pass along would be to consider some of the milder,
anti-anxiety meds for calming (though the Kava Kava should serve well).
Also, see if you can give up dairy products for a while and see if that
moderates some of your sensations. If you do, be sure to find other ways to
get protein and calcium in your diet. Avoid drugs like pot, LSD, etc as that
will only stall you or send you spinning off on a tangent. Also, Cranial
Sacral Therapy claims to do good things for autism. Have you read any of the
books written by autistics? The few I've read have good info on how to avoid
some stimulations, and how to dose yourself with others.

I can't promise you that the experiences that you'll find on the K-list will
fit your perceptions, but you will likely find enough information to better
understand yourself.

Sorry to run so long, and sound too "know-it-all". I don't often get a
chance to talk autism and spiritual matters together so it all just kinda
tumbled out! I look very much forward to talking with you, sharing your
perspective, helping me grow in understanding!

Love,
Melissa
