illuminated the dark side. Chris was motivated by greed & thirst for 
recognition. He cut off the noses & ears of sailors who disobeyed him & 
enslaved Indians to find gold for him. Those that escaped but were later 
captured were fed to the dogs. One prominent Yale professor who 
extensively researched Chris came to the conclusion that to honor 
Columbus on 'Columbus Day' was to honor racism. >>
 
Albert Camus, said in his discourse of reception of the Nobel Prize 
something like that "obtaining enlightenment was not anymore like 
discovering America for Christophe Columbus. Our culture already 
inhabits the land." So i guess that the need to cut noses, enslave 
people, or make sharp distinctions between black and white is less 
necessary on the path of realization.
