My question is: Why not? To me, prayer isn't necessarily about getting an
answer, it's more about direct communication with the Divine, which has
always been on people's mind. I believe people do pray because they have a
desire to directly communicate with the Divine and prayer is one of those
ways of direct communication.

Yes, I understand what you mean. This is an element to be observed in many
religions: The mechanical prayer. Some people seem to believe they can take
a shortcut by mechanically repeating certain prayers or mantras a given
number of times at certain given times of the day and it will automatically
redeem them from whatever harm they may have done without them having to
live up to the standards. Well, just let them find out for themselves if
such a shortcut does exist...

To this statement I fully agree.
