One must appreciate that Meditation is never a Prayer. Prayer,
supplication, is born of self-pity. We pray when there is sorrow; when
there is happiness, joy, there is no supplication. That which separate or
thinks itself separate, ever seeking identification with something that is
not separate, brings only more division and pain. This cry may find an
answer, but the answer is the echo of self-pity, in its separation. The
repetition of words, of prayer, is self-hypnotic, self enclosing and
  destructive.

)))))))))): l must respectfully disagree with the above sentiments about
prayer, as it may apply to some-but by no means all- forms of prayer. Because
my k activity has not allowed me to meditate for most of the past 6 yrs l
have relied upon prayer. Sometimes l have prayed in sorrow, but much more
frequently it has been with feelings of happiness and gratitude. l've prayed
most of the time not for myself but for the welfare of all beings, and it has
not come from a place of self pity. l can personally speak only for my own
experience, but l believe that a great many people pray in a similar way. l
don't know if l can say much about the results of my prayers, but there is
mounting evidence that prayer is far from destructive but is instead
effective in helping others who are in need.
Just one other comment on an unrelated subject: MAGNETS. When my low
back pain first got bad 2 yrs ago l purchased and tried magnets from the
Japanese Co. that was mentioned. Altho l'm not positive l have every reason
to believe this problem is from my k activity. The magnets were of absolutely
no help. The physical therapist who l was using at the time told me most of
his other patients who tried had a similar experience, altho the friend who
sold me the magnets told me they had helped his low back pain. l suspect
magnets are in this sense similar to everything else l've encountered:
effecitve for some people, not for others. regards jerry >>
