HI AMANDA I think Dharma answered this question.
Which one of the charas does this correspond to ?

Sorry, I'm still unfamiliar with the sanskrit terms.

 >7 yrs ago from doing vipassana meditation. I was meditating on my own
 >at the time, and after this opening I basically continued on my own, simply
 >observing powerful energy flows, without any other form of breathing

Jerry, at this time, did you feel changes in the K
 coming through ?
I'm not sure what you mean by changes coming thru.
 >After 6 mos I went to a sufi pir who gave me pranayama to do
 >--after 6 wks of that very bad headaches began which still plague me to
this

Yes, Jerry, there probably are many more sides to this
story that I do not see, but from what you have told
previously on the list, I find the lack of guidance
from your swami appalling. Right when I
joined the list, I can't tell you how much your story
shocked and saddened me. I hope you can find your way
 out of the troubles soon.
YES, there is a little more to it than I've related, not wannting to
go into detail bout it.The break I had with my swami was very traumatic and
painful, but knowing and still loving him as I do, I feel he did what he felt
was in my best interest. I think he felt I was at a point where no one could
help me but me. I do wish he would have handled it differently, but it is
very hard to always know why gurus do what they do.	The good news is that
I feel like I'm doing alot better. I informed the list about a powerful dream
I had last month when I was visited by a swami and felt afterward as if I'd
received shaktipat. Well, I've been doing much better ever since then. It
feels like things are moving more than they have for 6 yrs, so I am
cautiously optiimistic. Who knows? I may look back on all that's happened at
some point and have a much differeent perspective about everything that
happened with my teachers and suffering, etc.

Harsha, do you have any experiences with what is the
best to do once K is awakened ?

Yup, that's what I read too and realizing I was
without any ordinary teacher, having awakened K on
my own, I was scared to the hell bardo and back when
reading that being without a teacher would be
 equal to death.

I can only tell of personal experience but that was
2 months ago and I'm still here, doing better with K
than 2 months ago, having less pains and less stress
related visions, as well as having more K coming through.

I would have to add my voice to Dharma and Jerry here.

I trained a very extroverted and undiluted
form of Kung Fu a few years back and stopped because I
knew it would lead to unknown effects and that the
teacher did not have the comunication skills to
explain the changes in a way which they could be
 understood.

4 years later my K became active for real after
having been present all throughout life
  by doing reenactments of
historical battles and studying modern history.
Not the usual way of awakening the K and not a way in
which the further path after K is self evident.
AMANDA , I'm not sure what you mean --something about reenactments of
historical battles triggering k awakening?
 >We live in an unprecedented time, when
 >teachings that were secret for centuries have been transported across time
 >and cultures to the modernized western way of life. I've wondered how much
 >this has had to do with the confusion I've felt about trying to reconcile
my
 >experience with what I've always read about in eastern texts.

This is very interesting. Do you have any more thoughts
 about that Jerry ?
Don't know if I really have much insight into this. I think most traditions
in India emphasized much more preparation for k awakening than is emphasized
in the modern west where we always want eveything right now, and I think
problems with k are much less frequent and severe when an aspirant has first
formed a solid relshp with a true master and has become steeped in devotion
as well as having been given other preparation. I think these elements are
largely missing in the west today. So many of us are having k experiences on
our own with little preparation of body or mind, then we go to some teacher
after we have the problems--by then it seems the teachers, even the really
good ones, are less likely to be able to help and guide us--it may be too
late. That's just what I believe.
As many others have pointed out on this list; there
seems to have been an increase in K awakenings in the
West in the last 25 years or so. Could it be that once
the information becomes available, more ppl will
feel compelled to try and awaken K ?
I hope not. I think people , with rare exceptions, should focus more on the
values that are embodied in the great traditions: love, compassion, honesty,
selflessness, devotion and self inquiry
Are spontaneous K awakenings common in the East ? I don't know how common
they are. Because of my physical probs caused by k I haven't been back to
India for over 7 yrs, and alot can change in that time, as it seems to be
changing so quickly here. I believe they have always been common, but dont
know if it's happening as often there as it seems to be here. love
jerry
