Actually, we have seven bodies, which correspond with seven chakras. :)
Physical (muladdhara), pranic (swadhistana), astral (manipura), mental
(anahata), atmic (visshudha), and the two which correspond with ajna and
sahasrara. Above that things are slightly different and we cannot talk
about chakras or bodies... :)

What you call "the waking state" is when consiusness is in
physical/pranical body. In that state we also use astral (emotions) and
most of people use a bit of mental (thinking; love).

What you call "the dream state" is when we sleep; when consiusness moves
from psyhical to astral body. It is direct contact with astral plane,
without contact to physical body. "Deep sleep state" is bassically the
same thing, astral has its own levels, and the higher you go, the
"deeper" your sleep is. When you go to lowest astral level, you dream
nightmares; when you go higher, you dream flowers and birds, when you go
even higher, you don't remember any of your dreams.

"Samadhi" is direct contact with mental plane; the highest experience
with mental level most people have is beeing in love with somebody.

Today, 99.99% of people can't reach beyond astral and mental. Many
people have problems even with reaching mental; and by reaching I mean
just that; reaching. Direct contact with mental (samadhi) is
unfortunately SF to most people.

Astral plane (and everything "below") is plane of lies. Communication on
such levels is not direct - on physical level we have speech, on astral
something I call "films", complete multimedia (think of best possible
Virtual Reality game; when somebody talks to you about something, you
are there, you feel it, you see it, you smell it)... however, it can be
faked, and it can be "empty".

On mental plane everything is seen, everything is known, there is no
point in hiding or telling it... everything that comes from mental can
be trusted.

How to know what comes from astral, and what from mental? Tough
question... you have to see both, and feel the difference, and than
you'll know. To me, astral is simply "empty", something is missing,
something is not there - it is talking just for the sake of talking, to
fill the silence.
