Subject: [K-list] Sufies, Whirling Dervishes and Baraka

Hello Thomas

It is my first time to know that Sufies are known in the western society. I will try to compose some info on Sufis and send it back to you ....

As for the Whirling Dervishes, I really do not know what are you talking about!!!! May be if you explain further about it I would relate it to whatever we have in my society or religion.....

As for Baraka, we use this word to indicate the BLISSING OF ALLUAH (GOD)....for example, If I say that this food has Baraka then I mean it will be enough for 5 persons even though it is only for 1 or 2 persons... If I am talking about TIME, then I mean the time that I have to do a certian task will be sufficient to complete it (even if it is logically not enough) .... and so on in every aspect of our life and all this is possible because ALLAH is Blissing my time or food or money or childern or any thing relating to me....

In reality, Suppose you are earning thousends of dollars or pounds every month But only a certain amount of that money is spent on what you need , and the rest is waisted on unnecessary items or unforeseen expenses like disease or accedints or stolen or lost.... In ISLAM, we beliave that even if I have a big salary we should pay SADAGAH or ZAKAH (charity and compolsary charity) in order to have Baraka on the rest of the money to be enough for my expense....

Also, In food you could buy so much food and you could eat a lot of meals, but only a small portion (that have Baraka) of that is enough to keep you in a healthy condition to perform all your duties every day ( the rest of the food goes down the drain)... So, we ask ALLAH to give us Baraka in our meal (even though it is very little) in order for us to perform our day-to day duties (religious, social, work ....)....

I hope I did answer your question about Baraka. I do have the feeling that you were thinking it was a different thing.. If so please tell me your understanding about it .....

Regards
