It seems to me that terms such as Avatar, Guru, PhD, and Bishop are given out within hierarchical organisations to denote rank and achievement. Bully for them. If people choose to describe themselves in these terms then fine, I believe that is their choice. But I reserve the right to choose whether I accept these descriptions. Personally I prefer to know a tree by its fruits rather than its name.

I recently came across an example of this. I was copied in on a letter recently to a 3HO Kundalini master called Guru Dharam. The address started with 'To Mr. G. Dharam'.

PS Has anyone noticed the composition of the word 'hierarchical'? I understand 'hier' is the French for 'yesterday'. So 'hierarchical' translates for me as 'yesterday's arch'. I wish that was true.
