I hadn't really noticed it until I saw your post, but I'd recently somehow 
... by default? .. moved spiritual disclipline from the background to the 
forgeround.  It wasn't really a fully intended effort, 
and "by default" means that I just sort of wore out on trying to develop the 
more earthly disciplines. Maybe the earthly discilplines only really work if 
they come after the spiritual disciplines.  Wow! Now that makes sense and I 
can think of countless examples.  Can one play the piano, or tennis, or 
write computer programs, or be good neighbors, parents, or whatevers without 
putting a lot of soul in there?   So finding one's soul makes for a good 
first step, yes?
