Hi,

I will be doing an article for Eye On the Web's Philosophy and Religion page
on Voodoo, and I would like to ask anyone who might have personal
experiences with this religion to please contact me if you would like to
share. If you do, please answer directly to me rather than the list as this
is off topic.

I volunteered for the assignment because I want to see the article done
right. Far too many articles on voodoo are sensational, irreverent, and
superficial. Although the article would be quite short (about 1000 words)
due to the constraints of space, I would like to do it with as much depth as
possible. I told the editor that I have been very interested in the
religion for a long time and would approach the subject with deep respect.

Thanks,
Sharon

Hi.

I have noticed that things have been VERY quiet all over the place the
past couple of days. I saw a few mentions of it being 4th July. Being
in England I don't know much about it. Is it what you far-westerners
call "Thanksgiving"? I understand it's quite a big celebration for a
lot of people, which would explain why mail traffic and even traffic
in other aspects of the net have ground to almost a complete halt.

Anyway, if this is the reason, and if I am correct in that 4th of July
is thanksgiving (or some other celebration), then many happy returns
and...er.. thankyou. :)

Dear List,

Since it's relatively quiet, I have a general question for those of us who are
"guided" by "voices."

Two nights ago I woke with the thought "this is a crossroads"
I have no idea what this refers to, as my life right now seems lacking in
dilemmas.
Sometime before that my "voice" said "keep your eye on the prize"
I guess that is self explanatory!

My question is, although these voices are commonly referred to as Guides, or
Higher hearing, or voices from a higher power, I wonder how others actually
catagorize them. Do you feel them a part of "Self" or do you feel the
presence from outside self.

P.S. Please, Paul, as a personal favor, don't reply to this until July 7 if
you plan to respond. Thanks

Thanks for any feedback,

Love, Hillary

I had a weird dream last night. I was paralyzed by the electric force I
sometimes feel in my back, but it was racing all over my body. I dreamt I got
up to try to "escape" it and I passed by a mirror. There were two other me's,
one was dancing. I tried to catch her but she flew away. The other me was
waiting by the bathroom door and disappeared as soon as I got there.

Any feedback?

I only know "It is forbidden". However, that doesn't stop some people
from trying to force others to conform to their ways, and
beliefs. You will learn at your own pace.

Hi all,

I am trying to live my day now as a lucid dream. To me this means remembering that
these experiences are just another type of dream. I'm finding this makes it easier to
get through the day, because I'm not getting upset as easily, or losing my cool. Of
course, this would likely depend on the degree of negativity I am experiencing. But
stuff that normally would make me blow up is making me laugh and just handle it. I am
also becoming kinder to others and more generous to my neighbors. I am remembering to
just be myself, and not let transient events shake my center.

I'll share my take on this reality:

1. This physical dream, in the realm of cause and effect, just works differently than
dreams on the inner plane. Change here only works in one direction, forward: Birth
and Death are permanent changes here. It is still always now; time just has a stronger
sense of illusion here because of the cause and effect nature of physical change.

2. Our emotional and mental bodies are much heavier, and the weight of our emotions
and thoughts are so strong, they cause us to forget ourselves. "Coming here" exposes
our weaknesses, giving us an opportunity to see our flaws and improve (if we choose).

3. This 3D experience is not necessary for personalities evolved enough to embrace
learning and growth without the unending promptings of cause and effect. For the rest
of us, this world entices us like the sweet aroma of a beautiful flower. We draw so
near to experience the flower. We lose all sense of self, and then are bitten back by
the bee sting of this reality.

I would love to hear your thoughts as well.

HI Paul,

The fourth of July is the day we celebrate the signing of the Declaration
of Independence. From Britain. No hard feelings! People tend to have
picnics, barbecues, and watch fireworks at night.

We celebrate Thanksgiving on the third Thursday of November, Canadians do
it earlier, in October I think. Think of it as a harvest festival.

I heard elsewhere that the first two weeks of July are the most popular
vacation time as well. So it is quiet for more than one reason.

Hi Liz,

That sounds interesting to me. We could discuss those books we may have
already read too. Sometimes, I'm not sure if a book I'm interested in is
worth buying, and I only have so much cash and time for reading to spare.

Hi Paul,

Are you joking? The 4th of July is America's Independence Day. That is
the day America's Declaration of Independence was signed, after its
Revolutionary War against Great Britain.

Some stuff that goes on on July 4th:

Flags are flown, Barbecues, Night time fireworks, and of course the
Yankees are required to win their baseball game. To that end, the umps
are sometimes paid off.

Paul,

Love is something I am learning to feel in this life. How have you
gotten so in touch with it? I think it is part of my dharma, to feel the
love in creation. There is a place, where I was before being incarnated,
where one could stand and feel love rise through them, like a torrent of
kundalini energy. This love is released through the heart. It becomes
"your" love, pouring out through the universe. This is the greatest
and most intense pleasure I have ever known.

This reminds me of Reiki Healing sessions...while placing hands-on, one
feels the energy of Unconditional Love...This Love is Universal not mine or
"yours" but All That Is...which includes each an everyone of us. But, one
must be openly aware to feel it. <S>

And yes Cathy, kundalini practised correctly with an awakened partner has
the same feeling also...unconditionally.

They're from within. (there is no 'out there'.)Don't take them seriously. (even if
they give you the correct answer on a test.)
How do you feel the people in life?
Outside yourself?
Or part of Self.
Perception is a reflection of Us.

What's the 'secret' ingredient of lucid dreaming?Awareness.
Life is meditation.

of computer scientists (all males)announced that computers should also
be referred to asbeing female.
Their reasons for drawing this conclusion follow:
Five reasons to believe computers are female:

1. No one but the Creator understands their internal logic.
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computer
is incomprehensible to everyone else.
3. The message "Bad command or file name" is about as informative as,
"If you don't know why I'm mad at you, then I'm certainly not going to
tell you".
4. Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for
later retrieval.
5. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself
spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

However, another group of computer scientists (all female)think that
computers should be referred to as if they were male. Their reasons
follow:

Five reasons to believe computers are male:
1. They have a lot of data, but are still clueless.
2. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but halfthe time
  they are the problem.
3. As soon as you commit to one you realize that, if you had waited

4. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.
5. Big power surges knock them out for the rest of the night.

Stubborn aren't I.

I have had some of these voices. Sometimes it is like being introduced
to somebody. Lots of `hello's. Once I woke to be told "hello" by a
very serious sounding female voice. I kind of viewed it as guides
introducing themselves. I had a bigger interest in higher planes in
the past but am maybe more skeptical about it now.

I did have a realisation once when thinking about higher self that it
and I were not seperate. I sort of equated with it, distinct but as a
part of it. And the part that I was, was not seperate of the rest of
the whole.. so I saw that it was still me. I recall there was some
kundalini excitement on realising this.

I also yawn mini-yawns to long/mouth-wideopen yawns while giveing
myself a chakra balanceing or healing/ I often do this while driving, as
this is one of the few places I have privacy. Thank God for automatic
transmissions, much easier to do this now. 'have to limit hand waving
whenbeside or passing a ten wheeler though!
Were you thinking about your guides or communicating with them
before you got in your car? Maybe they were invisible "back seat
drivers.
Aloha, barb

I am just wondering what some of the possibilities are for
interpreting this experience.

A few years ago I had my first memorable out of body experience, when
I got up out of bed, and turned around, and looked at myself sleeping.
I somehow knew inhereintly what I could and could not do. My room, and
the physical world looked similar, but kind of vague. I decided to walk
through my wall. I am on the second floor, so when I finally passed
totally through, I began to float gently to the ground. When I reached
the ground, I proceeded to walk out into the street. As I walked,
instead of following the dimensions of my yard, I began to float. I was
still moving my "legs" but I guess I really didn't need to. I noticed
that I could float when I walked over past the hill in my front yard,
and gravity did not pull me down. When I got to the middle of the
street I looked around, and then began to walk up hill, floating still.
I got two houses up when a car came down the street. It ran through me,
and I was jolted back into my body. I haven't been able to do much else
but reproduce the visualization of the event.

Tonight I couldn't fall asleep, and I had a headache. I decided to walk
down the street, and memories of the experienced flooded my head. I
felt hyper-aware, but psychically everything seemed to be hiding from
the questions that I was feeling. It felt as though I was in a world
where all of the shadows were watching me in fear(?). I then had a
strange thought that this may have been a preconcieved death for me.
This struck me hard, and I am not sure what to make of it. I am
looking for clues.

Thank you,
Experiential detective,
Paul Torres.
