Lissette,
In response to your note:
>
>What do you mean of taking energy away from the process and giving it
to
>Reiki?

I know Reiki teachers make a point of all the energy is channelled .....
but I simply don't agree with them and neither does my teacher. Some chi
healers say the same things but the facts don't support that, the chi
healer does it by using his/her chi. In order to go into healing they
must be good at raising their own chi but they are using their chi and
have to do regularly do chi gung or some practice to keep their level up
not only to heal but to keep from becoming ill themselves.

In Reiki training the instructor does some things to open chakras, brain
centers, etc. that are said to open one to the flow of energy from the
universe. I agree they do make changes in the subtle body that allow the
student to control or manipulate the energy to a limited degree. As to
the unlimited universe of energy, I believe that is a misunderstanding
of the original statements of the (disembodied) masters who made a gift
of it to modern man.

The difference is much like the long standing discussion on the Bible
and the virgin birth. One side says: "Its in the Bible and that's it! It
was a fact and you're going to hell if you believe differently." The
other side says, "Since we have no original texts we must trace our way
back through the translations to see what the original meaning may have
been." It takes only one or two steps until you're at the Greek. They
had 4 or 5 words for love and they had about as many for young women.
Their word for young unmarried woman (with no implication about her sex
life) got translated into virgin along the way to us today.

That is the sort of problem I see in the idea that Reiki is an unlimited
free energy. I differ from the traditional understanding of Reiki in how
I "translate" what was intended about the Reiki energy and its supply by
those astral masters. Reiki healing energy is prana or a modified form
of prana. The universe is full of prana. It is in unlimited supply. That
is not the same as saying it is unlimited in each of us. Prana for each
of us is limited.

Therefore you must use your own prana to alter the energy flows in
others to help them heal themselves or give them energy to heal. Add to
this the fact that some people are just energy leeches, if you're near
them they take energy from you (we've all been around such people no
matter what you did together when they leave you're exhausted). When
they discover Reiki they'll show up the most often for treatment. When
thought of this way it becomes clear Reiki _can_ be a real energy drain,
at the subtle body level.

meditating
>and going through the usual changes of K, not bad symptoms except abit

>cope with at this moment of my life

Most (read almost all) of us can't tell where it is most of the time.
Sometimes we are very lucky and get a quick look at our own process. I
was lucky enough to actually have a vision of K entering Ajna as it did
so. That is rare but I am prone to visions and have been all my life. I
was able to track it elsewhere because I have a (in-body) teacher to
give me feedback when I can see him and a friend who is a very good
professional psychic who can see K in the aura. My friend first told me
it was moving and where it was. My teacher verified his early
observations so I could rely on him when my teacher wasn't around (at
that time he stayed in India and I was only able to go every four years
or so).

Without a lot of luck and someone with powers like my friend or my
teacher you must just rely on the signs we can see and understand. In
many cases you will know when you get to throat, if you don't pass
straight through to Ajna. Any and all (and then some) psychic powers you
had before, that came and went without your total control, will very
likely come and stay and be under your total control. This is usually
the most dangerous time in a K process. Throat is often not a problem
for a woman because they are more apt to pass straight through there
than a man. A woman will more likely lodge at the heart. I can't give
you anything on the heart symptoms that you couldn't find better
explained in a good book. I blew through heart like an express train
trying to make up lost time (after taking years to get to third chakra).
I was lodged in throat for over a year.

Much of what I said is at odds with Reiki teachers' opinions, this is a
case in point. To address it in detail gets into issues of mixing energy
and if followed would lead to the possibility of mixing samscaras, via
energy exchanges, which leads to the rules about sexual practice...and
on and on...

We can go back and examine one of Patanjali's Sutras for a quick answer.
"Make friends with the happy," is one translation. It means associate
with those who are in a state of bliss, meaning successful spiritual
practice that has lead them to have completed their K path. By
associating with them you will begin to be effected by their energies
and become more like them. People who have attained that state will be
able to handle the limited bad energy from a dedicated student with
little or no effort. It also follows that you can absorb the bad energy
of those less developed than you and from the ill. The closer the
interaction the greater the energy exchange.

>I had a lot of emotions when I got the group Reiki, childhood stuff
that
>I thought did not bother me anymore surfaced and it was amazing the
>amount of grief and anger that I have repressed.

I thind that is fairly common. My Reiki 1 class included a woman who was
about 8 months and 3.5 weeks pregnant. When we practiced on her I had to
quit and go into another room. All I could feel when I touched her was
rage, hatred, and violence. I found out later her husband was a mean and
violent drunk, and he stayed drunk. She was in her twenties and having
her fourth or fifth child. It seems he didn't beat her when she was
pregnant for fear of hurting the child. I guess she was just "looking
forward" to returning to her usual life in a few weeks. Hearing she'd
finally lost it and killed the jerk wouldn't be a big shock to me.

>
>Thank you so much for your feedback, you seem to know a lot about this,
>please tell me more..
>

If I 'm able help I am always glad to try. I learned the hard way. I
made many, maybe most of the mistakes along the way and my teacher was
not happy with me "many, many times."

I believe one of the most important benefits of Reiki to the K process
is training the subtle body in moving the vayus (pranas) around the
body. This is a great aid in controlling the movement of K later. Also
by helping others we strengthen the power of the heart chakra. By
helping others we increase the heart's pull on K and help lift it to
that level. My teacher's comment on those ideas was, "In some cases,
yes, other cases, no. Some people are different. They have problems that
Reiki could make worse." He didn't go into detail as to what those
problems might be so I can't pass it along. So, take my opinion with a
grain of salt.

Improving the vayu control and opening a blockage were what I feel
happened to me. I only did Reiki regularly on one person. A friend's
wife was dying of cancer. I would go early and treat her every week
before our Vedanta study group met. That lasted a little over a year,
until she died. It seemed to help eliminate a block at the bottom of the
heart chakra that let K rise on up and I certainly got parctice moving
energy. I don't know if the Reiki helped her but she was touched that
someone she barely knew took the time to try to help her and her husband
said that made her last months a bit easier.

Namaste,

Joe

Shadow is always near you.
When you notice the SHADOW
You know you are NOT facing
The LIGHT SOURCE.
When you see the LOBSTER
You know you are at the bottom

Hi everyone!

I am new to this group. I am curious about Kundalini. I have an opportunity
to learn from a great practitioner and a teacher of yoga. Here are the
details about him:

Name: Yogiraj Manohar Harkare
Age: 83
Native of Nagpur, India
Accomplishments: Author of several books on topics of spiritual awakening
including Yoganindra, Ashta Chakra Bhedan.

He will be in the U.S. from July 20 to Aug 17. I am arranging his program
in the US. There will be a week long camp in Normal, IL. This camp will
include Yoga practice in the morning and lectures in the afternoon and
evening.

I have two questions for the people in this group. 1) How can I best
prepare to receive instructions for such a high level (spiritually) person?
2)Are there organizations/people out there in the cyberland that might be
better prepared/willing to take advantage of this gentleman's visit to the
U.S.?

I will appreciate any help/recommendations. Thank you.

Lately I've become so enchanted with the idea
of a dark goddess, I feel the need to write
a dark, Mingus meets Stravinski type composition.
This is in honor of the thought processes it has
seeded me with. Right now I'm still trying to
work this catchy bluegrass riff into a whole song.

But I need some ideas of the names of these dark
goddesses in various traditions. I suppose Dakini
would be one in the Indian tradition. Nothing is
more inspiring than some literature.

Its just weird, when I have been experimenting with the
I-ching that this trigram never fails to show up:

     * Upper Nuclear Trigram
Khwan
Humble, Yielding, Earth, Darkness, Female, Form.

as the future reading.

Its just little things that have been pulling me towards this
theme.

bye,
nothing is

I find this series of comments on ego quite interesting. Lot of ways
you can look at it, define it and deal with it. Here is mine, for
whatever it's worth.

Ego is the product of our mind's effort to provide an identification
for ourselves which is critical for our chances to interact with
others and function as "social beings". The result of this
identification process is our deeply rooted beliefs that what we are
correstponds to the name that someone gave us, with the body that we
see in the mirror, with the nationality, culture, religion, social
status, racial traits etc. which we grow to consider as part of our
"self". On the physical level, this institution "grows" in the left
side of our brain and is bloated up as a consequence of our excessive
use of our right-side (sun) channel. Corresponding institution in the
right side of the brain can be called the "super-ego" and collects all
the conditionings, emotions, desires which are the product of the
left-side channel (moon channel) activity. In other words, the left
and right channels cross at the agnja chakra and swap positions at the
brain level where they deposit their "waste" forming the ego and the
super-ego.

Now, while ego and super-ego are necessary for us to survie in the
everyday life, they also significantly hinder our chance to
spiritually ascend. When the awakened kundalini rises through the
sushumma (the central) channel, it typically reaches an agnja chakra
which is very constricted by these two "baloon-like" institutions. If
She cannot pass through the agnja, she cannot reach the sahasrara and,
by piercing through the sahasrara, give the seeker the experience of
Yoga, the union of the individual Self (different from the ego-self)
with the the Divine.

This is the mechanical explanation, a more subtle one has to do with
the difference between the ego and the True Self. Who is the True
Self ? If we are not this body, this name, this conditionings, all
this stuff which our ego identifies ourselves with, the what are we in
Truth ? The answer, so simple and yet so difficult to perfectly
internalize, is that we are the Pure Spirit, the fraction of Divine
energy which resides in our heart and which rises to the Sahasrara
when Kundalini is awakened and opens the way to the Yoga.

The more we identify ourselves with the Pure Spirit (Atma) and the
more we profoundly realize (not just talking about it, which is again
an activity of our mind) that we are one with the all-pervading power
of the Divine. One with all that matters beyond this universe of
illusion (Maya). You might call it Brahman, Allah, God or not call it
at all, but your goal is to reach the union with "It" and feel the
union on your own central nervous system, in your own everyday life.
And here I stop, before I get either boring or preaching. As usual, I
got carried away a bit. Curious to hear what you folks have to say
about it, though.

Enjoy,

Maurizio
