"Human beings need each other for their continued existence, both as
individuals and as a species; moreover, without continued existence,
they
cannot attain Perfection; whereby it follows that they need each other
precisely in order to attain perfection. Thus, the perfection, the
completion of each individual, depends on other individuals of the
species; and thus man must have intercourse and association with the
sons
of men, based on mutual assistance. Without this, he will stray from
the
way of justice and fall into inequity."

Earlier I posted a copy of a few of the Aphorisms of Patanjali that
mentioned some Siddhas. They were close to the original (except some
bigtime spelling errors) and used the Sanskrit teminology. Anyone that
wants a rendition of the complete Yoga Sutras that are more 'readable'
to Western mind check out:

http://www.yoga.com/raw/yoga/info/sutras/SutrasBecksEnglishVersion.html

Even at that, I don't purport to understand/interpret them; I just
report them as I find them. BTW a good basic glossary of terms can be
found at:

http://www.rsl.ukans.edu/~pkanagar/divine/glossary.htm
___________________________
Just a comment here about Sanskrit (no I don't speak or understand it,
just passing on what I have read ;-):
You will find the same word 'spelled' in different ways. Actually
transliterated is a more accurate term; in the Devanagari script used
for spelling sanskrit there is very little variation.
There are too few letters in the Roman alphabet to cover the possible
consanantal varieties in Sanskrit. For example, there are two r's; one
is a vowel and one is a consonant. In the word karma the 'r' is a
consonant, in the word rg it is a vowel; hence you will see two
spellings in reference to the Rg Veda. The one I just typed and also Rig
Veda. The 'i' in Rig doesn't exist in Sanskrit, it is just plopped in to
'please' the Western eye and also gives an indication of the original
sound. So when scrounging around in 'dictionaries' for definitions keep
the 'variable r' principal in mind. The discussion of vivartta may be a
case of this; vrtti means a course of action and may be related to the
mystery word; which may actually be vivrtta?
The combos of consonants with an H cause a problem, too. They are used
to indicate an 'aspiration' that we don't think of as particularly
important except in speech rhythm. For example there are two distinct
consonants in Sanskrit which are transliterated into English as: p and
ph (not as in ele{ph}ant). We do say them differently in English; the
first is said like the 'p' we say when we pronounce upward, the other
when we pronounce pan. In 'upward' we stop the letter 'p' short and then
start to say the second syllable 'ward'. In 'pan' we say the letter 'p',
continue the sound by expelling breath and moving on without break into
the rest of the syllable 'an'. In effect we 'aspirate' an 'h' sound. We
don't think a lot of this, but in many languages (Sanskrit among them)
this constitutes a completely different sound and consequently, in
Devanagari, different 'letter'.
This causes the Westerner a problem; does one 'spell' the devanagari
symbols or does one 'spell' the sound? As a result you get two
'spellings' for the same word; i.e. cakra and chakra .... citti and
chitti. Despite the different 'spellings' the English pronunciation is
the same. Chakra is chakra whether it is spelled with or without the
'h'. Part of the problem has come from the use of minute diacritical
markings that you sometimes see over and under the letters when the 'h'
is absent from the spelling - these were and are used to indicate which
pronunciation was intended. However, these special type characters are
absent from most fonts and so when they are set up are skipped entirely.
To complicate matters more, there were two SH sounds recognized in
Sanskrit, which gives us an S, an S with a diacritical accent above
representing one of the SH sounds and an S with a diacritical dot below
representing the other SH sound. To add to the S-miseries, some early
transliteration schemes represented the first SH sound with the French
c-cedilla; i.e., ç. There is no sound in Sanskrit for our Z-sound.
Likewise, there is no sound in Sanskrit that conforms to the English TH
sound found in either 'the' or 'thin'. Hence, hathayoga is actually
pronounced as if it were spelled HAH-tuh-YOH-guh.
The lesson to be learned here is that foreign languages are a bear; and
Sanskrit is a big, ugly, grizzly, bear. If you don't find what you are
looking for, keep in mind that spelling is a wildly variable thing!

Love and LAUGHING LIGHT,
Dan-RF

Thank you for printing this qu by Nelson Mandela. I (a psychologist)
was just talking to one of my clients about this quote. They were
struggling with having a sense of meaning in their and being of
importance. I have now copied the quote and will be mailing this to
     her. Thanks so much.

LIBERATION
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deep fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
  talented and fabulous?"
Actually who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small
  doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that
other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to manifest the glory of God
  that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fears, our presence
  automatically liberates others.
      --Nelson Mandela

it was suggested that if i put the word in context it may assist someone to
clarify the meaning of the this word...

'the Tantra recognizes, and claims not to be in conflict with Veda'...
'it follows the mode of evolution of Jiva is concerned, as also an
Abhasa, in the nature of Vivartta...in the Pure Creation.'

Hello Jeremiah,

Gnothi seauton is Greek for: Know thyself. This motto was inscribed on the
temple of Apollo (orig. the god of archery, prophecy, medecine. poetry and
music, later identified with Helios, the Sun-god ) in Delphi (Greece). The
line has been attributed to several Greek philosophers, a.o. Thales and
Chilo. In Latin it is known as: Nosce te ipsum.

Actually, I have been wondering about this for a long time!
so.....this is really rich with meaning for me...
and...now I know why I do not wish to throw a pebble in the
lake and make it ripple.....ooooohhhhhh....this really helps
me to know that it is ok...to be.......
Thank you. I thank the universe for raising me right next
to a lake filled with hard water. I used to swim in it....
used to float and bend over...and dive to the bottom...
now.... ah ha!!! I get the metaphor!!!!!

Bless you.....bless you....bless you....
resistance....is not.....diving.....
and...thank you again!!!!!!!!!! ..........
