Paul, I live in Texas where we have a great deal of sunshine. This past
spring we had days and days of overcast, gray clouds and much more rain than
usual. It was really hard to wake up each day and see that same gray sky. I
realized it was getting me down and yet still couldn't seem to shake it.

Finally, all I could think to do was to create sunny days in my mind, from
memories of beautiful, sunny spring days and then to look forward to the warm
glow of coming summer. I also kept telling myself ........This, too, will
pass.

Lots of (sun) light,

I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and
recommendations to me re: SAD. The weather here in Louisville has been
very unusual, and while I enjoy a good thunderstorm and even a tornado
once in a while, the constant greyness seems to make my current
journey/sadhana even more difficult.

I am not without external pressures. I am in therapy, have been diagnosed
clinically depressed, have been taking zoloft for a number of years, and
am experimenting DATING after seven years celibacy and a year being
unattached. When the sun is shining it seems to help.

Thanks again for all your input.

Yes, this is true.

It is already chosen for us.

The concept of moving up ever higher "levels" of spiritual

attainment is a trap.

It is a variation of acquisitiveness.

This is very beautiful.

When we detach, we allow space for the "timeless".

We allow ourselves to experience it.

Yes!

It is Love shining through.

Dan, HI

You are quoting from a book that Baba Muktananda wrote called "Play of
Consciousness", that I recommend you read, so you get the whole story,
not just the notes on the "hard on." The rest is the ""real lesson.""
why dont you pick it up at the nearest bookstore of Siddha Yoga center?

Love,

(k)ites,
More tidbits on the 'Sun Salute'.

SURYANAMASKAR

First, the asanas are described
then, the mantras and meditations
associated with each asana
is explained
In this way, Suryanamaskar becomes
more than a series of physical 'exercises'
and assumes symbolic/solar significance.
Namaste!

ASANAS:

1. Stand with spine straight, feet close together, palms
together in Anjali mudra ("Namaste" gesture), face turned slightly
upward. Inhale. Exhale.
2. Inhale as you bring arms upward, in a "V" around your
head. Stretch backward, arching back as far as is comfortable with
abdominal & buttock muscles contracted.
3. Exhale as you bend forward, keeping head between arms.
Keep your knees straight, bend from the waist. Palms on floor to
sides of feet. Relax neck and shoulders (if you can't stretch all
the way forward at first, as far as you're able).
4. Inhale. Bend knees, lift head so that chin points toward
ceiling. Stretch your right leg back, right knee on the floor,
palms flat on either side of left foot.
5. *Retain* the breath, as you stretch your left leg back.
Toes on floor, legs and body straight--similar to a "push-up"
position.
6. Lower body to the floor. Contract abs and raise stomach--
your forehead, chest, knees and toes will be in contact with the
floor. Exhale.
7. Inhale up into bhujangasana--Cobra posture. Palms flat on
floor, elbows slightly bent, chin pointing upward, spine arched as
far as comfortable.
8. Exhale as you lock chin to chest and rise up with palms
and feet flat on the floor, bent at hip--your body and the floor
form a shape similar to a triangle.
9. Inhale, bend knees, stretch right leg back so that right
knee and toes are on floor (similar to #4, but opposite leg).
Palms flat on either side of left foot, chin pointing upward.
10. Exhale as you bring right leg forward. Feet together,
palms flat on either side of feet. Straighten legs so that you're
bent from the hip as in #3. Relax neck and shoulders.
11. Inhale, straighten body, keeping arms in "V" around head.
Stretch up and arch back, as in #2.
12. Exhale. Straighten spine. Bring palms together in Namaste.

MANTRA/SYMBOLOGY:

1. While in first position, try to "feel" the solar energy,
or the light of the sun, pervading you entirely. The Mantra is:
"Aum Adi Deva Namah." Adi Deva means, literally, "first god" or
"first consciousness of one's divinity." The position, standing
straight, facing the sun, hands in Namaste position, represents
Purusa, the "pure spirit." (All the mantras should be "said"
silently, but "vibrated" as though spoken aloud.)
Pronunciation: Ahhhhh-Ooooo-Mmmmmmmm AH-dih Deh-vuh. (Roughly).
2. As you inhale, consciously 'feel' the vital energy filling
you. The backward bend is symbolic of one side illuminated, the
other side shadowed; as the sun illuminates one-half of the earth
while the other remains in darkness; as the soul begins to come
into a deeper, but still incomplete awareness of Its divinity.
Mantra: Aum Jata Veda Namah. Jata Veda being the wisdom of the
Vedas. Aum Juh-Tta Veh-Dah Nah-Mah.
3. As you exhale, the primal creative force is represented by
your outbreath. You touch the ground, symbolic of the 'creation'
of the earth, matter, the incarnated self. Mantra: Aum Jyoti Mey
Linga Namah. Oyeah, I forgot: Namah means both 'name' and
'salutation.' The linga/lingam is the male organ, the symbol of
Siva, and the symbol of pure consciousness. Jyoti Mey is pure
light or pure 'matter'. The two together represent the male and
female creative powers. Consciousness has entered matter. Aum JYO-
ttee May Lihn-GAH Nah-Mah.
4. Your foot is on the ground, but not your knee! You immerse
yourself deeply in the union of matter and consciousness, while
turning your face to the sun. Mantra: Aum Devya Swarupa Namah.
Devya is YOUR divinity, or divinity personified in YOU. Swarupa is
"form" You recognize your "divine form" although not fully
'feeling' it yet. Aum Deh-VAH-yuh Svah-ROO-puh Nah-Mah.
5. With your body in a straight line, hands and feet on
floor, you represent a 'bridge' between the smallest atom and the
whole of the Aethyr (micro & macro). Mantra: Aum Ansu Namah.
Ansu=smallest particle of matter. Aum Uhn-SHOO Namah.
6. The position represents VIBRATION and ACTION. You are the
embodiment of Sakthi! Aum Rajaguna Rupa Namah. Raja=supreme,

royal. Rajas=energy, activity. Raja and Rajas are both implied.
Rupa means both 'form' and 'beauty.' Also both are implied. Gunas
are states of being or feeling the Self. You express your
embodiment as Sakthi, the energy that must unite with pure
consciousness, and the Beauty within that state. Aum RAH-zhuh-GOO-
nuh ROO-puh Namah.
7. Cobra position. You rise to face the sun and bend
backwards, having glimpsed your immortal form. Mantra: Aum Amrita
Swarupa Namah. Amrita is 'life-giving nectar'; it's also
'immortality.' Your form is immortal; you have the power to give
life, you are inspired! Aum Ahm-RITT-uh Namah.
8. You rise up while looking down; forming another bridge,
between the conscious realm (symbolized by looking down at the
earth) and the realm of the 'absolute.' Again, this is
micro/macro, but from a different perspective: dove rather than
serpent. <wink!>  Mantra: Aum Usra Swarupa Namah.  Ushas=Dawn;
Ush=the warmth produced by the first light of Dawn. Usra=the
experience of the warmth and the glimpse. You simultaneously
assume the form of the experience and the experiencer! Aum OOSH-
ruh Namah.
9. Similar to position 4, but this time you're immersing
yourself in consciousness rather than matter. Mantra: Aum Hiran
Mey Namah! Hiran=gold, golden. Hiran Mey=Pure Gold; that which
endures beyond enduring; that which IS. Aum Hih-Runn May Namah.
10. Similar to position 3 but "expiring" rather than
"creating"-- the the destruction of that which is not Pure Gold or
Pure Self. You submit to your Self, you bow to your Self! Mantra:
Aum Akasa Vihari Namah. Aum Ah-KAH-shah Vih-HAH-ree Namah.
Akasa=aethyr; also radiant "inner" aethyr. Vihari=void, cave. As
the bullshit dies, you embody pure, radiant aethyr.
11. Similar to position 2, but joy and divinity are now
illumined, the remainder shadowed. Breathe in--you have 'given
birth to' that which endures! Mantra: Aum Adi Teya Namah. Adi
Teya=the first 'offspring' of divinity. Aum AH-dih Teh-YUH Namah.
12. Return to first position. The cycle completed. Mantra: Aum
MahaVisnu Namah. Maha=great. Visnu=god who represents the
principle of preservation (as Brahma is creation and Siva
destruction/transcendence). You preserve the purity of Self that
remains after the cycles of creation and
destruction represented in 2 through 11. Aum MAH-huh VIHSH-nooh

(k)ites,
Here are a few of the siddhas from Patanjali's yoga-aphorisms
describing the
   supernatural powers of a yogi.

   1. DHARANA is keeping your mind on a certain object.

Dharana, concentration, is achieved when the mind gets concentrated
on
a certain object, and stays in that condition.

   2. DHIJANA is a continuous inflow of knowledge about that object.

When the mind tries to concentrate on a certain object, to stay at,
for example, the top of the head, or the heart, and succeedes to get
sensations through that part of the body only, that is called
dharana;
and when the mind succeedes to stay in that condition for a while,
   that is dhijana, meditation.

   3. When dhijana throws away all forms and reveals the meaning, that
   is SAMADHI.

For example, you meditate about a book; gradually you succeed to keep
your mind concentrated on that book, and than to percieve inner
sensations only. That state of dhijana is called samadhi.

   4. These three, when used on the same object, make SAMJAMA.

When a person directs his mind on a certain object and fixes it
there,
and then keeps it there for a longer time, setting apart the object
from its inner part, he achieved samjama. Dharana, dhijana and
samadhi
follow one after another, all of them directed on one object. The
shape of the thing has vanished, only its meaning stays.

   5. Through achieving the samjama comes the light of knowledge.

When a person succeeds to achieve samjama, he has mastered all
powers.
This is the great tool of a yogi. Objects of realization are
numberless. They are divided on rough, rougher and the roughest ones,
subtle, more subtle and the most subtle ones. Samjama has to be used
first on rough things, and after a person starts getting knowledge
about rough objects, he will gradually use it on more subtle objects.

   .
   .
   .

   21. Using samjama on the shape of the body stops the ability of
noticing shapes, and since the ability of manifestation in the eye is
set apart from the shape, the body becomes invisible.

A person standing in this room could apparently vanish. In fact, he
won't vanish, but nobody will see him. The shape and the body will be
separated. The ability to notice things results from the joining of
   shape and the object itself.

   22. This way also vanishing and hiding of told words and other
   things is possible.

   23. There are two kinds of karma: the one that brings return soon,
and the one that will bring it later. Using samjama on them a person
gets the exact time of his disconnection from the body. This is of
great importance, because the thoughts we have at the moment of
parting have great influence in determinating the next life.

   24. Using samjama on benevolence, compassion, contentment,
equanimity, a person will be one upone whom honour these distinctive
   traits.

We have to feel benevolence for all; we have to be compassionate for
the ones in trouble; when people are happy we also have to be happy,
and to bad ones we have to be indifferent.

   25. By means of samjama on strenght of an elephant and other
animals, a person gets their strenght.

Endless energy is available to each of us if we know how to take it.
A
yogi has discovered the science that allows him to use it.

   26. Using samjama on glittering brightness, one gets the knowledge
of the subtle, hidden and far.

When a person uses samjama on brightness in heart, he can see things
that are happening very far away; he can also see subtle things.

   27. By means of samjama on the Sun one gets the knowledge about the
   world.

   28. On Moon, the knowledge about the stars.

   29. On Northstar, knowledge about the motion of the stars.

   30. By means of samjama on the area of navel, one gets the knowledge
   on constitution of the body.

   31. On the throat pit, end of hunger.

   32. On the kurma nerv, firmness of the body.

   33. On top of the head, seeing of sidhas.

Sidhas are beings little above the ghosts.

   .

   35. By using samjama on the heart, one gets the knowledge about the
   mind of others.

   .

   39. By using samjama on other bodies, living or dead, one can enter
   that body.

   40. Using samjama on udana, a person doesn't sink in water, he can
walk on nails, fire, he can die at will.

Udana is a nervous flow that controls the lungs and the rest of the
   upper part of the body.

   .

   46. This is where tinyness and other powers, levitation, and
undestructibility of the body come from.

One can achive the eight supernatural powers. He can become as tiny
as
an atom, as huge as a mountain, as heavy as the Earth, as light as
air; He can achieve anything he wants, control anything he wants. The
body becomes undestructable. Nothing can hurt him. Breaking the
levers
of time, he lives in this universe, in his body.

<<This has always been a stumbling point for me, does bliss exsist in
this
mindless state,>>

I can only speak from my experience, but yes, bliss does exist in this
state - what is your definition of 'bliss'? What occurred with me was,
for several hours, the only thing I 'saw' was nothing but white and
lights that went on forever... (beautiful!! magnificent!) - altho it was
obvious to me that what I saw that was once 'the bed, the floor, the
chairs, the walls, etc. etc.', they were now beautiful golden lights -
kind of like I was perceiving them (everything!) as pure light. Whether
that is 'true perception' or not, I don't know.

<< also if no thought exsists, is one concious of being in this
state?>>

The most profound of this whole experience was that there were no
thoughts whatsoever - everything was SO quiet - no thoughts, no mind
chattering, no noises whatsoever (I have tinnitus, constant ringing in my
ears, and it was even gone!) -the silence was the most magnificent sound
I have ever heard! The quietness - definitely the peace of God - is not
of this world - very hard to explain.... And yes, you are conscious of
being in this state. I was amazed, altho totally at peace, that I was
seeing & *not* hearing what I was seeing & hearing...

A few days before reaching this state, I had went to hear Roy Davis, a
diciple of Yogananda, speak at a seminar. He had mentioned to imagine,
while meditating, a white light going from the base of your spine on up
thru the top of your head, and to do this with the rhythm of your
breathing. So I incorporated this into my meditations. Whether this had
anything to do with reaching the state I was in, I don't know. The
wonderful thing of it all, was I was NOT meditating when this occurred.

there'll surely be nomadness on the planet. And peace begins with each
of us -- a little peace here, a little peace there -- pretty soon all the
peaces will fit together to make one big peace everywhere..." -Swami

This is true perception.

When you see the essence of things as pure energy.

It is not knowledge, for that lies beyond perception.

Our thoughts are clouds that block this all pervasive

Silence.

When we watch our thoughts without involvement they quiet

themselves and we come to that Silence.

Listen.

I get real quiet.

And listen.

Until the silence is deafening.

Silence is speaking.

In her own tongue.

To hear what she says.

Listen carefully.

To an enchanting rhythm.

If you would hear.

She'd tell you that she loves you.

She's telling you right now.

If you tune into her frequency.

She'll lead you to the point.

Between the past and the future.

Where they cancel each other out.

There is an intelligence.

In the rhythm.

Listen.

To the sacred song of Silence.

I'm looking out of my window.

The world is on fire.

Burning.

And through the smoke.

Coming into view.

Are all the faces of me and you.

Faces fuse into one spirit.

Seven torches light the way.

In the sound of Silence.

Caught in the Claws of the Eagle of Love

(How to Recapitulate all night, during sleep
with lucid awareness)

The Path of Evolution and Revolution which
Truely causes Changes of a lifetime...

The only thing I can think of, to solve the problem of
how to recapitulate (life-review)* each night, all night, is to come
close to death, perhaps, really close, or cultivate
a sense of nearness to death, by being on a Path
which is near death,or contemplate the idea of being a
death defyer, which could mean being willing to die
in a spiritual way that is really earth and reality shaking
for the Beloved, who is your God, Manesfestion, and your Guru, for
He is willing to do this, and more, for you, and others,
which, could be death of ego. And that is
done by severe Love of a radical kind, and/or Devotion
to Principles and Truths, and being a Warrior, and Relentless,
about Stalking those verities through all conditions in life, while
being able to keep your body alive, and your mind sane, and your
heart pure, and full, and you will be in Synchronistic
Order and timing, of the 3rd kind. And, to be close to the Spirit
of the Way, and Move according to the Will of Infinity,
to the degree that you are able to, at the moment, and you
will naturally, Recapitulate to such a high degree, that
you may come to regret it, so severely, you will
come out of it as another person, with changed Reality,
and, more able, and skilled, because, the Eagle of Love,
if you will, of the Norse Legends, confirm, the Obstacle,
that is especially cleaned out, is the ego, and,
you, then, become possessor, of more God-like
skills, from the Reservior of the Spirit, which,
will come through, more easily, and, are used, Wisely,
hopefully, if the Teacher is doing his job, and more
safely, for the good of all.
Being caught in the Claws of the Eagle of Love,
could possible be said to be the major
factor in achieving these skills of a Warrior
on the Path of Love, for many reasons, to
develope this skill, you need to Contemplate
what is the Virtue of Love, and how it may be
used, perhaps, with the Intellegence, and the
longing of the Heart, toward your Center, your Guru/God,
of your existence, and the Energetics skills of a Warrior, intensified in
the Tensity (tenacity?) exercise department, so,
that you have the strength of endurance to devote all your mind, heart, and
soul, to this Path..and, experience the Mystic
Love, the instant Knowing of Truth, and the Bliss
of the Gods, of the Past, and the Future!!! Smile....
You need to ascend the Mind, and coast on the wheels
of Love, and flow toward Infinity....If we do our job, well,
we are in Heaven, inspired, and if we don't, we are in Hell,
wondering what to do with ourselves, wandering, hungry ghosts, and
you know Who, will give us things to do, to get ourselves
motivated, once again, with His Love, given in Abundance....

For further information about bringing Infinity,
and Eternity down to the earth in a personal way,
and seeing, more clearly, the Spiritual Realities reflected everywhere, in
nature, and, you and me, it is wise and good
to study this particular Shamanic Path of Love,
of the ancient Indian Way that is a deep, deep
Reservior, or Well, of Spirit, and Love, and Truth,
It is the Spiritual Warrior's Way, to get through
life in a whole piece, so, that, when the time comes,
you may be able to face your God of Infinity, at the time of
your death, and then, death will be a Messenger of Joy,
and, even after. It is a study of Nature,
and her Beauty, as well, as her
Might and Power, and last of all it is the
Way of this child of God, and nature's Phlosophies, who is also a Bahai for
25 years, and a full-blooded
Mystic,(who is studying diverse Paths such as
this List's Way, for Esp, oob, and lucid dream purposes) , who studied the
Seven Valleys, on and off, for years, and
found Keys to it, especially, the meaning of the
Valley of True Poverty and Nothingness,
and the Valley of Love, from this Way,
as well, which, increased her understanding
of both this Way, and that Way (Bahai).
That, is the Question, which Way is
God on the Earth, or the Heavens,
is He reflected in the beauties
of nature, and her Gifts, or the
Heavens above, in the Abha
 Kingdom of Lights upon Lights,
bedecked, with the jewels of
the Origin of all the Virtues,
and Names of God.
