The K-list 10th Anniversary Convention.

To celebrate a decade of K-list community, all present or past members are invited to gather for a weekend of spirituality and revelry, July 7-9 2006.

Where: We have booked one floor of the UBC Totem Park Residences in Vancouver, BC Canada.

Totem park is part of the University of British Columbia. One of the most beautiful campuses on the west coast, with beach on three sides, old giant cedar trees, a Zen garden and a rose garden nearby. It sits atop a beautiful energy vortex known locally as "the dragon"
It's tall trees and old ivy covered buildings may feel oddly familiar to you, because the campus is often used as a location for movies and tv.

    Commonsblock Address:
    2525 West Mall
    Vancouver, BC Canada
    V6T 1W9

Checkout is at noon sunday and luggage can go into a lockup for the day while the convention continues in the afternoon.

Guests are free to reserve their room for a few extra days after the convention, and stay there to enjoy a vacation in Vancouver.

  • vancouver attractions

Twice voted the most beautiful city in the world, Vancouver is at its peak in this season of long sunny days and warm nights spent enjoying the kisses of the pacific sea breeze. On Sat July 7 at this latitude, evenings are long and balmy, the sun does not set until after 10:30pm.

  • The Museum of Anthropology is on campus, and you can easily spend a day there browsing their world famous collection of Haida and west coast art and history.

UBC is flanked by ocean and beach on three sides.

  • For the adventurous and reasonably fit, a stroll over the cliff down the path and steps takes you to the heart of the dragon vortex, Wreck beach. Wreck beach is clothing optional, and aside from the cell phones it never stopped being the 1960's here. The water is warmed by the Fraser River and you can see across the channel to watch the sun set over Vancouver Island.
Note: Even if you do not descend all the way to the beach itself, it is worth walking partway down the path to experience standing inside of the energy field of a giant cedar tree. There is an old cedar that is alive, but was once blasted by lightning and there is doorway to a hollow large enough for two people to stand inside. The chi rush feels like the top of your head is lifting off like a hat.
  • To the northeast of the campus is Spanish Banks, a wide shallow beach with grass, picnic tables and a view of the city of Vancouver and equally lovely sunsets. Handicapped accessable.

    Feed me:

Breakfast is included with your room at Totem Park. Lunch, dinner and snacks can be easily obtained at dozens of restaurants and cafes on campus, and a few convenience stores.

We will have some sort of communal feast on Saturday night, followed by an evening of storytelling, jokes, song and sharing. It is not decided whether to rent a meeting hall on campus and have dinner catered, or to reserve a banquet room at a Chinese restaurant.

    What:

This event is modeled on the not for profit pagan events I often attend, where the group rents a space and we volunteer to share with each other and make our own fun.
The K-list members have a wide range of talents and paths to share. Would you like to volunteer to lead a meditation in the Zen Garden, or perhaps a discussion on an interesting Kundalini related topic?

Usually the events have a sort of schedule, based on on what the people attending want to *volunteer* to do, or offer to the group... someone might lead a meditation or tai-chi on the beach at sunrise, while others sleep in. In the afternoon there might be a drum circle somewhere on site, and a discussion and a workshop or healing circle happening concurrently.

There is lots of free time in the schedule for meals and socializing... mostly it is people hanging out, getting to know each other and making their own fun.

I want to know what you would like to do or see while you are here?
What is a Kundalites idea of a good time? Is there something you really like to do, that you would like to talk about, share or demonstrate to other list members?

    An activities schedule so far:

  • Friday: check in to your room.
  • 6pm-meet and greet party in the dorm lounge
  • 10 pm... sunset-moonrise event.
... there may be chocolate mousse cheesecake involved.

    Saturday:

  • Breakfast
  • 10 am to 12 : Jack Rauhala will lead a discussion based on reading-subjects from his book: Find Your God---- A Pilgrims Guide to the Cosmos.
    www.findyourgod.ca
  • Noon lunch
  • 2pm Spanish Banks or Beach Party with various activities:
Mystress: Labyrinths. A labyrinth is an ancient walking meditation that is like taking a stroll through your own mind to become centered or get insights. The pattern of the labyrinth appears on the most ancient pottery, and has always been associated with mysticism. You will learn how to draw the labyrinth pattern freehand on paper, then we will draw a full size labyrinth in the sand and do the walking meditation individually. After wards, we can watch the incoming tide wash it away.
  • 7 pm Dinner Feasting. West Coast Salmon Barbecue Some kind of very fun social dinner party together.
  • Afterwards, merriment and entertaining each other. Storytelling, jokes, singing songs, leading toasts, speeches, music, dancing? What will ye? Sunday: repeat of sunrise ritual? Not me, too early!
  • breakfast
  • 11 am checkout and store baggage, or not. Some may choose to stay over in longer the dorm and see Vancouver. Activities?
  • lunch
  • 1-5pm activities Beach, gardens, workshops, meditations, what?
  • 6-7pm goodbyes.
